Imagine Yourself with a Positive Self-Image

Your imagination is one of the most powerful tools you must become successful in anything you choose. Imagination is putting day dreams to use. It’s not a waste of time as some people think. No one has ever invented anything or become a great success without having an awesome imagination.

When you have low self-esteem, it may be difficult to picture yourself in a successful role – either in your personal or business life. Imagining yourself as successful can boost your self image and empower you to face challenges rather than wasting time of negative feelings.

You don’t have to be a success to imagine yourself as one. You know what success looks like – whether it’s with family, friends or career. You can put that knowledge to work by imagining yourself in that role, changing the way you think about yourself.

Here are 4 ways to use your imagination to build your self-image so that the real image matches the one in your mind:

  • Hold that thought – Draw a mental picture of how you would look, act and feel as a success. Make the thoughts detailed and transparent. Foggy details won’t create a true picture of the new you. Hold that thought in your mind and when negative thoughts about yourself occur, quickly replace it with the new self-image.

  • Don’t compare yourself to others – You are unique – so don’t compare yourself to others who may have weaknesses where you have strengths. Apply your unique strengths to your success. When you compare yourself to others whom you consider to be “better” than you, you’re only downgrading your innate skills and talents.

  • Love yourself – When you consciously think about yourself, think of all the good things you’ve done and want to do. Soon, those loving thoughts will manifest themselves outward and others will be able to see a change in self-confidence by the way you interact with others.

  • Put the past behind – When all the failures and unpleasant episodes in your life are in your rear-view mirror, you’ll have a much better chance of succeeding. Your mind will focus on whatever thoughts and emotions you’re feeding it, so feed it good thoughts of the present and future and let your imagination do the rest.

During the process of having your imagination create a positive self image, you’ll likely run into obstacles such as criticism from others. Be firm in your resolve to put those words or actions out of your mind and concentrate on your own beliefs and convictions.

Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or whether you think you can’t – you’re right!” When you think and use your imagination to become successful, you will. Make your imagination work for you.
